Ysmael Reyes, originally from Venezuela, is currently on the faculty at Regis University in Denver and the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts, and Principal Flute of the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra. A graduate student of Christina Jennings at The University of Colorado at Boulder, Mr. Reyes received his Bachelor degree in performance from the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales in Caracas, and his master degree from the University of Iowa with the renowned flutist Robert Dick. He has appeared as a soloist with the Caracas Youth Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Venezuela, Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Symphony Orchestra in Caracas, and the Antonio Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra on tours throughout Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina.

In 2000 the Juventudes Andinas Symphony Orchestra invited Mr. Reyes as solo flutist for their South American tour, which included concerts in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. As a member of the University of Iowa Center for New Music from 2001 to 2003, Mr. Reyes presented chamber music recitals in United States and Russia and had a solo appearance in the Society of Electro-Acoustic Music (SEAMUS) National Conference in 2002.

In 2005 Mr. Reyes was the Guest Artist at the Albuquerque Flute Fiesta, where he gave a solo flute recital and clinics. Mr. Reyes has been a prize winner in competitions such as the First Latin American Flute Competition in Caracas, Venezuela, the Music Scholarship Award by the Dante Alighieri Society of Denver and the Bruce Ekstrand Memorial Competition at the University of Colorado. More recently, Mr. Reyes was selected, among flutists from around the world, to compete in the First “Aurele Nicole International Flute Competition in Beijing, China. Mr. Reyes has also been a semifinalist in the Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition in Albuquerque and the Myrna Brown Flute Competition in Texas. In 2006 Mr. Reyes was a Guest Artist at the Second Venezuelan Flute Festival, where he taught master classes and gave a solo recital.

As an orchestral musician Mr. Reyes has performed with the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Symphony and Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestras in Venezuela and the Boulder Bach Festival Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival Symphony in the United States. His principal teachers in the past have been Luis Julio Toro, Alexa Still, Victor Rojas, and Tadeu Coelho.
